Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao........ After that what options she gets???

Basic introduction of scheme

(readers can skip this part if already know about "Beti bachao.." scheme)

As we all know Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao ( Save girl child, educate girl child) is a social campaign of Govt. of India. The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme was launched on 22 January 2015 by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Main purpose of this scheme is to address the issue of declining child sex ratio (CRS) and generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls. I hope things will work out as intended it will increase some awareness among people of the country.

Main Issue

First let us see how our girls(betiya) are performing when given a chance. We all know results of class 10th & 12th will be out soon. From past many years we read headline about the result with proud which states "girls have been better than boys". Let's see some statistics of last five years class 12th CBSC results before I come to the main point.

Year       Girls        Boys

2016       88.58       78.85
2015       87.50       77.70
2014       88.52       78.27
2013       87.98       77.78
2012       86.21       75.80

As the numbers suggest, no need to explain how girls are performing. Girls are indeed best but here point is not about proving them superior to boys. The main point is our girls are so smart & genius then definitely our corporate world, engineering sector, healthcare, banking sector or any public/private sector all will show more no.of girls or at least say equal no. of male & female representative. Our economy is strong because our better part of population is giving their best in country's development, growth.

But....... here........ there are certain twists in the story.

Twist 1

Many poor / lower class families will think about getting their girls married, so childhood/bright future/contribution to society .....etc over there itself. (Disclaimer: I know exception are always there but here we are talking about overall society.....so please). Also at this stage "beti padhao" target is also achieved for many parents that "beti padh likh gayi hai" (she got some basic education, it's enough).

Twist 2:

Let's take this situation one more step ahead, after 12th they will finish graduation (any field) again they will perform quite well. Now one more twist, at least after graduation she needs to get married because many parents in our country think, if it's too late, they'll not be able find a good match/kabil boy/achcha rishta (any term you like to use). At this stage many of them will start their new journey which could have been different... ... well, let's go ahead.

Twist 3:

Our few girls are lucky enough or fought hard with circumstance/society & reached to new level  i.e. either she studied further &/or is having a good career start. Now they are ok to settle down & start their family. They are working woman of today's India & contributing to our economy then comes the next step....child birth, child care etc.
But that's alright because in today's India it is easy for them to continue after break, or work from home or flexible work hours. Well......really ? Please....... I have so many stories to share about women unable to continue/resume jobs after kids. (Again exception are there, I'm talking about mass)

Alas......., our genius girls, at one or the other stage of life they are leaving the workforce. Sometimes by choice & sometimes by NO choice.

Conclusion:

I know it's already big blog but if you are still reading this, thanks. At last I would request our govt. / corporate sectors to start many more initiatives which can bring back better part of population back to workforce & it will definitely give a boost to our economy.

Food for Thought:

Consider following questions, our women owe an answer to them.

1) Why we are letting go our best population / best talent get wasted doing nothing productive, something that really matters ?

2) Nowadays parents in urban & rural area are willing to educate their daughters, idea of women working outside is still very hard to digest, why ?

3)Do we have plans to bring back women who drop out of workforce?

[Disclaimer: By this blog I'm not saying ultimate goal of life should be contribute in country's economy but point is that decision should be made by that girl/woman not by society (samaj rachna). If she is happy with her job title as homemaker/ housewife, it is absolutely alright but that should be her own will not forced decision.]
